Who am I?
I was born and raised in Minnesota, the land of ten thousand lakes, twenty million mosquitoes and thirty below zero
winters. I graduated from Macalester College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. More importantly, this is where I met my
wife. During my freshman year, I changed my major from the fine arts into the dark realm of alchemy. I then earned a Ph.D. in
chemistry from the University of Minnesota. Unfortunately, I have not yet discovered the secret to transmuting lead into gold.
Recently, I've channeled my extra brain superpowers toward conjuring fiction from common nouns, simple verbs and just for
good measure, a dash of colorful adjectives.
What do I do?
I'm a chemist by day, secret writer
by night. I began my scientific career in 1993 at Amgen, a biotech in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. Four years later, a small
group of scientists and I founded Array BioPharma, a small drug discovery company. Now, I carefully glue together carbon, nitrogen
and oxygen atoms into more complex molecules, in hopes of one day fighting deadly diseases. Becoming an author and curing cancer
share several things in common - patience, perseverence and a lot of luck.
Looking
to publish.
I am currently seeking literary representation for The Doppleplotter Conspiracy, book one of my science
fiction series for young adults titled The Fifth Wavelength. My second book, Urq, is nearing completion. How did I come about
writing these novels? A long story short, I was inspired by a dear friend, who sadly passed away many years ago, to pursue this
dream. I have learned much during my light years of creative travels and have enjoyed every galactic moment of writing during
this exciting journey.
What authors have influenced me?
Many of the classics: Ray Bradbury (The Veldt), H.G. Wells (what's not to love
about Morlocks and Eloi?), Madeleine L'Engle (A Wrinkle in Time), Jules Verne (Captain Nemo is awesome) and Edgar Allan Poe (okay,
Poe's not sci fi, but he taught me to appreciate the poe-try of words, pun intended). I also like J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and
Stephen King.
Interests?
I enjoy playing guitar (acoustic and electric), watching scary horror movies, drawing strange pictures, hiking
the endless trails in Colorado and spending time with my dear wife and two bibliophilic boys, my greatest critics.
Thanks
for checking out my website! And remember...
